Sly and the Family Stone |
| Infectious fun. Sly & The Family Stone had a way of finding the groove (thanks it a large part to bass player Larry Graham). Sly Stone got a reputation for showing up late, or not at all, at his concerts. But you can listen to his CDs whenever you want. "Dance To The Music," "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)" and "I Want To Take You Higher" are hot. Sly Stone Fax: Sly Stone had worked as a DJ and record producer. Stone took R&B, Gospel and Soul and slammed it into the emerging San Francisco Acid Rock sound. Graham went on to be one of Funk's most influential bass players. Sly & The Family Stone performed at Woodstock. Sly was notorious for arriving late, like REALLY LATE - say two or three hours for his concerts. That's when he bothered to show up at all. Concert promoters weren't too thrilled. 
Sly & The Family Stone's individual albums are good with each having excellent tracks. "Stand!" (with "Everyday People" and "I Want To Take You Higher"), released in '69 is the hottest and most vibrant. However, "Greatest Hits" and "Anthology" cover the entire spectrum. |
