True, Buddy Holly did not look like a Rock n' Roll star with his skinny frame and horn-rimmed glasses. He also lacked the high-octane stage presence of Elvis, Little Richard or Jerry Lee. But looks can be deceiving. All Holly did, over his twenty-two months of fame, was write and record classic Rock N' Roll that influenced Rock's next generation and beyond. His legacy includes "Rave On," "That'll Be The Day," "Not Fade Away," "It's So Easy," "Maybe Baby" and "Peggy Sue."
1930's  Buddy Holly enters the world. 1936

1950's  The Pretenders' frontwoman and driving force, Chrissie Hynde, is born in Akron, OH. 1951

Benmont Tench, keyboards for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, has a birthday. 1954
1960's   
The late LeRoi Moore, sax player and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, is born in Dunn, NC. 1961

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Beatles top the British charts with "She Loves You." 1963

The Doors` "Waiting For The Sun" LP is released. Also, Canned Heat's "Boogie With Canned Heat" enters the LP chart. 1968

The New Yardbirds make their debut in Copenhagen. Designed to fulfill Yardbirds’ concert obligations the group morphs into Led Zeppelin. 1968
1970's  Slade’s “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” is #1 in the U.K. Slade is definitely a British thing. 1972

Elton John plays the Hollywood Bowl. He is introduced to the 25,000 in attendance by porn-star Linda Lovelace. That by itself is worth the price of admission. 1973

The Guess Who play their final concert before breaking up. It`s in Montreal. 1975

George Harrison is found guilty of "subconsciously plagiarizing" the Chiffon`s early `60s hit "He`s So Fine" when he came up with "My Sweet Lord." Harrison has to cough up $587,000. 1976

On his own once again. Former Sex Pistol Sid Vicious performs at Max`s Kansas City, which despite the name is actually in New York. 1978

The Who's legendary drummer Keith Moon dies at age 31 before he has a chance to get old. The spectacular drummer overdoses on Hemenephirin which was suppose to help him battle his long-term alcohol problem. Turns out the cure is more severe than the disease. 1978

Mick Jagger and David Bowie`s cover of "Dancing In The Streets" (a hit for Martha and the Vandellas) tops the U.K. charts. 1985

"Summer Of ‘69" (Bryan Adams) gets to #5 on the U.S. singles chart. 1985

Ringo Starr is the first ex-Beatle to become a grandfather when Tatia Jayne Starkey is born. 1985

For the first time since they broke up in the late-60s, Mike Nesmith performs with the Monkees. 1986

Despite legal threats from former member Roger Waters, Pink Floyd kick off their "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour in Ottawa. 1987

INXS cleans up at the 5th annual MTV Video Music Awards in Universal City,CA. "Need You Tonight" earns trophies for Best Video, Best Group, Breakthrough Video and Viewer’s Choice. 1988

White Zombie’s “More Human Than Human” wins the Best Hard Rock Video statue at the 12th MTV Video Music Awards in New York. R.E.M. get the Vanguard Video, lifetime achievement award while, at the other end of the spectrum, Hootie & The Blowfish earn the Best New Artist Video for “Hold My Hand.” 1995

In what may have been the last time the World Trade Center was used as a backdrop, Ryan Adams films the video for his song “New York, New York” near the Brooklyn Bridge with the WTC in the background. The WTC is attacked and destroyed by terrorist (by flying commercial jet planes into both buildings) four days later. 2001

Coldplay’s “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” is the #1 album in eleven countries, including the U.K. and Canada – but not in the U.S. 2002

Singer/songwriter Warren Zevon succumbs to lung cancer at the age of 56. He is best remembered for '70s hit "Werewolves of London" and writing "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me." 2003

Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Green Day and the Beastie Boys help MoveOn. org create public-service announcements designed to find housing for Hurricane Katrina victims. The effort is run through the nonprofit organization's HurricaneHousing.org project. 2005

Stone Sour’s “Through Glass” tops Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. Previously, the best Stone Sour had done was #2 with ‘02's “Bother.” 2006

Bucknaked. A 16-year-old girl files a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging that she suffered severe emotional distress after being coerced by Buckcherry's record label into appearing naked in the band's racy "Crazy Bitch" video. "She's had to switch schools because of that video," says girl's attorney. Buckcherry's manager claims that the teenager presented a false ID and submitted fake info so that she could participate in the shoot. 2006

Elton John curates the 2006 Fashion Rocks show in New York. John also performs at the event, with a personally selected line-up that includes Bon Jovi. Concert proceeds are donated to John's AIDS Foundation. 2006

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler appears on IFC's The Henry Rollins Show. The 30-minute interview airs the day before Aerosmith embarks on a North American tour with Joan Jet And The Blackhearts. 2007

Linkin Park's "Shadow Of The Day" is named the Best Rock Video at the MTV Video Music Awards in L.A. Clip director and Linkin Park DJ Joseph Hahn and singer Chester Bennington are on hand to accept the trophy. Kid Rock performs "All Summer Long." 2008
2010's  Stone Sour unfurls their third studio album, “Audio Secrecy," containing "Say You'll Haunt Me," the band's first single in 3 years. “I'd come in and I'd sang it, and I put my heart into it because the lyrics are about my wife and how I feel about my wife, and then I left,” says frontman Corey Taylor. “And I came back and they {the band} had just made it incredible. Now I can't get it out of my head." 2010
