Hanoi Rocks is a great name for a band. Viet Cong is not so good - but it's better than the group's previous moniker, Women.
Women, which had vocalist/bassist Matt Flegel, guitarist Scott Munro, guitarist Christopher Reimer and drummer Mike Wallace, went on an indefinite hiatus in '10 following an onstage fight. Two years later, Reimer mysteriously died in his sleep.
The surviving trio added Daniel Christiansen who had previously performed with Flegel and Wallace in a Black Sabbath cover band. And with that they became Viet Cong.
Following a pair of self-released cassettes and an appearance at the '14 SXSW festival, the Calgary group's "labyrinthine Post-Punk" got them signed to the Canadian record label Flemish Eye.
Viet Cong's self-titled release dropped in '15.
