The Vaccines
When U.K. band The Vaccines had their full-length debut "What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?" scheduled to be released the same week The Strokes were issuing their comeback album "Angles" - following a five year absence - adjustments were in order. Obviously, the U.K. music press would be all over The Strokes and not much (if anything) else. The Vaccines' release date was moved up a week.
The band began a year earlier. A demo of "If You Wanna" was proclaimed 'Hottest Record In The World' in August '10 by BBC DJ/presenter Zane Lowe. That notoriety led to a U.K. tour.
Debut single "Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra)" didn't do much on the U.K. singles chart but Q Magazine named the short shot (only 1:24) the "Track of the Day." Radio appearances and tours accompanied the release of The Vaccines' second single "Post Break-Up Sex" which debuted in the U.K. Top 40.
"What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?" won the XFM New Music Award, which honored the Best British Debut Album of 2011.
