Stitched Up Heart
Reality, even Reality TV, often fails to meet expectations.
In '08, the Fuse TV show Redemption Song had eleven women competing for a recording contract with Geffen Records. Alecia "Mixi" Demner won the competition. But a long term career was elusive.
So now what?
Demner, who was born in Orlando, FL, and guitarist Merrit Alfero founded the L.A. based Goth Metal band Stitched Up Heart in '10. They were later joined by bassist Randy Mathias and drummer James Decker.
Stitched Up Heart signed with Another Century Records in '15 and the single "Finally Free," garnered notice, eventually going to #19 in America's Active Rock Radio Chart. The band's major label debut, "Never Alone," featuring Demner's emotive vocals, landed later in '16.
But a song not on the album, a cover of "Back To Black," the title track of Amy Winehouse's sophomore album, resonated. "(It) is just kind of twisted and dark, and I kind of like the dark element to things," Demner explained. "Just a lot of love for Amy; a lot of love."
