Based on the accolades alone, '08 was a good year for guitarist, singer, songwriter, Marnie Stern. Her recording career started a year earlier when she was signed by Kill Rock Stars, an indie label leaning toward leftist, feminist and anti-war positions.
Backed by Zach Hill and Robby Moncrieff, Stern's'07 debut "In Advance Of The Broken Arm," was well received by critics including the usually staid New York Times who called it "the year's most exciting Rock 'n' Roll album."
"This Is It And I Am It And You Are It And So Is That And He Is It And She Is It And It Is It And That Is That" landed in '08 garnering additional recognition. Stern went on tour in the U.S. and Europe backed by guitarist Mark Shippy, bassist Malia James and a series of drummers.
After a lengthy title for Stern's sophomore album, her'10 set was simply named "Marnie Stern." Again, Hill was onboard along with bassist Matthew Flegel. Lars Stalfors (Mars Volta) mixed the album which immediately landed on the College Radio Top 10 Albums.
