Kenny Olson Cartel
Some backing musicians, even though their names are known and their work appreciated, dream of stepping into the spotlight. Guitarist Zakk Wylde, for example, managed to escape Ozzy Osbourne's shadow by forming Black Label Society.
Kenny Olson, guitarist for Kid Rock, who played on "Devil Without A Cause," "History Of Rock, "Cocky," "Kid Rock" and "Live Trucker" albums, launched the Kenny Olson Cartel. In addition to Olson, the Cartel featured Jon Nicholson (vocals), Paris DeLane (vocals, rhythm guitar), Brandon Calhoon (vocals, rhythm guitar), Peter Keys (keyboards), John "Wolf" Abel (bass) and Emanual Cole (drums). Even Band Of Gypsys (Jimi Hendrix) vet, bassist Billy Cox, helped out.
"It's just time for me to do this," explained the Detroit born and raised guitarist who started playing at age 10. "I've been blessed. I've gotten to do pretty much everything one could dream of doing and work with some amazing people and explore a lot of different elements with my music. I'm always growing as a guitar player, and I have a lot of different influences from all genres. The Cartel lets me put it all out there in one fell swoop."
