Jim James is the singer/guitarist/songwriter for My Morning Jacket. The group's success allowed James, who grew up in Louisville, to branch out. Along with cousin and former My Morning Jacket guitarist ('98 - '04) Johnny Quaid, James formed Removador Recordings and Solutions record label in '08.
That was followed by "Tribute To George Harrison," an EP with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. "My Sweet Lord" and "All Things Must Pass" were among the songs James covered. Though the album was released in '09, the tunes were recorded in '01, just days after Harrison's death.
Three years later, James (operating under the pseudonym Yim Yames) worked on to "New Multitudes," a Woody Guthrie tribute album that featured a variety of musicians (Guthrie's lyrics, their music). Serving as a co-producer, James contributed "My Revolutionary Mind," "Talking Empty Bed Blues" and "Changing World."
It's natural that these extra-curricular activities would lead to a full-length solo album. That happened in '13 with the release of "Regions Of Light And Sound Of God."
