Rock Band Clichés:
1) Band members meet in school: The Hotelier formed in '09 while Christian Holden, Chris Hoffman, Zack Shaw, and Sam Frederick were attending high school in Dudley, MA.
2) Band has to change its name: Originally known as The Hotel Year, Hotelier changed its name because there was another group called My Hotel Year. No need to confuse people. Also, Hotelier claimed they never like The Hotel Year moniker anyway.
3) Initial recordings fall short: Hotelier's EP, "We Are All Alone," did little outside of Massachusetts. Their first album, "It Never Goes Out," received some attention.
Hotelier's sophomore set, "Home, Like Noplace Is There," significantly improved the group's profile.
"(It) deals with some real dark stuff," stated Holden of the '14 album. "But laid within is a lot about the deconstruction of self for personal growth and transformation. I hope it helps you live and stuff. Apparently we are Emo now."
Their next album, "Goodness," earned three-and-a-half stars (out of a possible five) from Rolling Stone magazine - landing between good and excellent. The set included the track "Soft Animal."
