The Devil Wears Prada
"With Roots Above And Branches Below," the third album by The Devil Wears Prada, peaked at #11 on the Billboard Album Chart. As a result, they were voted 2009's Band of the Year by readers of Alternative Press.
Four years earlier, The Devils Wears Prada formed in Dayton, OH. They took their name from the novel and film of the same name thinking it had an anti-materialism theme. That turned out not to be the case, but the Christian Metalcore outfit decided to keep the name.
A year after forming, The Devil Wears Prada issued their debut album, "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" ('06), followed by sophomore effort "Plagues" ('07).
The five track "Zombie" EP ('10) preceded the release of the band's fourth album "Dead Throne," which sold 32,000 copies to land at #10 on the Billboard chart. It also topped the Christian Album charts and peaked at #3 on the Rock and Hard Rock Album charts.
"8:18" was the first Devil Wears Prada album without founding keyboardist James Baney involved. The '13 was produced by Matt Goldman with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz serving as the executive producer. Though "8:18" topped the Christian charts, it only debuted at #20 on the Billboard 200 (#6 on the Rock chart) and sold 16,000 copies in the first week.
Prior to the release of "8:18," Rubey missed some dates on the band's tour with As I Lay Dying to be with his wife and newborn child.
Turned out there was a long-term impact. In March, '15 the group announced that they had amicably parted ways with Rubey who had left to spend more time with his family. Actually, the departure happened the previous October following a series of shows in Mexico.
"While losing a founding member might seem to be a bumpy transition to announce, we find ourselves terrifically proud and enthused to continue moving forward with touring and writing new material," read a band statement.
They also announced the release of "The Space EP."
Devil Wears Prada had another "bumpy transition" when they announced the following year that drummer Daniel Williams and the group had parted ways.
With Giuseppe Capolupo on drums, The Devil Wears Prada released '16's "Transit Blues."
