Disturbed frontman David Draiman announced in late '11 that the band was on 'hiatus' until further notice. Just months later, Device, a group consisting of Draiman and former Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo, was formed.
"Lenardo was working on a number of tracks for the last 'Underworld' film that came out - and he asked me if I would be interested in being a part of one of the tracks," explained Draiman. "[I] found that working with him as a songwriting partner was very easy and fluid. He's a very strong songwriter in his own right."
Recording their self-title debut began in June, '12 and dropped in '13. "Vilify" was the lead track.
Though the album was co-written and recorded by Draiman and Lenardo, there were several "guest" appearances. Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold) and Lizzy Hale (Halestorm), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) and Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion) were among the 'outside' contributors.
"It's not Metal," explained Draiman. "It's influenced by early Industrial Rock (with) intensely melodic songs. It's futuristic Rock."
Draiman recruited Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, for the touring edition of the band.
