Evanescence wins "Best Rock Band of the Year" and Elvis Presley wins "Greatest Rock Artist of All-Time" in RockinTown.com’s annual poll.
This is the second time that RockinTown.com asked rock music fans to select the "Best Rock Band of the Year." To be eligible, a group had to release an album of original material between October 2006 and December 2007. Thirty-Two groups were nominated and almost 40,000 votes were cast. This year Evanescence took away the title of "Best Band of the Year".
Elvis Presley won the Greatest Rock Artist of All-Time honor with over 16% of 39,000 votes. In 2005, Nirvana walked away with the title nailing 33% of the vote. Pearl Jam fans showed their support in 2006 with over 7% of all the votes for that year. "The 30th anniversary of Presley's death was this year," said RT editor Mark Clinton. "Elvis has been gone a long time. So it’s pretty amazing the hold he still has on countless fans."
Presley is the only 1950’s star to make the survey’s Top 50. 1960’s legends The Beatles and Rolling Stones are at #7 and #22, respectively, on the list. "Whether you are talking about the ‘50s rock pioneer or the Vegas-jumpsuit-comeback years, Presley’s image and music still has enormous staying power," added Clinton.
Pioneering heavy metal group, Led Zeppelin, finished #2 for the second year in a row with 10% of the vote. "They always land in the Top 3 but they can never quite make it to #1," said Clinton. Evanescence was next with 7.5% of the vote. Nirvana dropped to #10.

Last Year, Pearl Jam’s "Ten" displaced Nirvana’s "Nevermind" as the Greatest Rock Album and never looked back. "Ten," released just prior to Nirvana’s landmark album, eventually sold more copies than "Nevermind."
